In 2014, we began working with NRAS on a poster campaign to highlight how people living with rheumatoid arthritis are affected by the condition. This project led on to a wider discussion as to how we could help the charity elevate their brand.
NRAS were happy with their existing logo, so we refreshed it by introducing a new, friendly font that still carried the weight of their message. They wanted their brand to be welcoming to their members, many of whom were people who either had or were caring for someone with rheumatoid arthritis. As it could be a daunting topic, particularly for the newly diagnosed, we designed a team of little characters, affectionately known as NRAScals, to help illustrate living with the condition. They are bright, fun characters, presented in a variety of situations that those with rheumatoid arthritis may find themselves in.
NRAScals made their debut in Medicines in Rheumatoid Arthritis, a 60 page publication aimed at helping people understand the many medications and treatments available to rheumatoid arthritis patients, without scaring or overwhelming them. The success of Medicines in Rheumatoid Arthritis led to a BMA Patient Information Award and we have continued to design and illustrate many further book publications that explore different aspects of living with rheumatoid arthritis.
We continue to enjoy creating all manner of publications for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society.
